Ghana football legend Abedi Ayew Pele has broken his silence on the Black Stars’ shocking failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. This marks the first time in 20 years that Ghana will miss the continental tournament.
Speaking to media, the three-time African Footballer of the Year emphasized the need for the team to focus on the future rather than dwell on past disappointments. He acknowledged significant changes in Ghanaian football over the last three decades but stressed the importance of hard work and proper organization to restore the team’s glory.
“What it takes to be a great football nation is to work hard and put your house in order to make sure that you get results,” Pele stated, highlighting football’s role in national unity.
Under coach Otto Addo’s leadership, the Black Stars finished bottom of Group F with just three points from six matches, managing only three draws and suffering three defeats. Angola and Sudan secured qualification from the group, leaving Ghana and Niger eliminated.
The 1982 AFCON winner called on both the technical team and players to learn from their mistakes and focus on improving performance to ensure qualification for future tournaments.
