Former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo made serious allegations regarding the collapse of her father’s bus company, Imperial Express. According to her, this action was not a random occurrence but rather an orchestrated effort stemming from an “order from above” during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) administration.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, Adwoa Safo’s father, is a well-known figure in Ghana, both as a businessman and as the founder of Kristo Asafo. Despite his support for the NPP, Adwoa Safo claims that his businesses were deliberately targeted. She described how the bus terminal in Accra was demolished without warning, leading to the destruction of her father’s thriving transport company.
During her interview on Okay FM on March 24, 2025, Safo recounted her experience when she sought clarification from Henry Quartey, the then Greater Accra Regional Minister. She stated that Quartey informed her that the decision to demolish the terminal came from higher authorities. “They destroyed my father’s business without any notice,” she said. “I called him, and he told me it was an order from above.”
Adwoa Safo also highlighted the irony of this situation, noting that the same buses used to support the NPP during election campaigns were now gone. In 2012, her father’s company had played a crucial role in transporting voters to support the party. Now, the land that was once occupied by his business remains undeveloped and fenced off, serving no purpose.
Furthermore, Safo accused the government of harassing her father’s businesses by making false claims of tax evasion, despite his compliance with the Ghana Revenue Authority. She emphasized that her father had been legally renting the land, which originally belonged to the government. “The land was given to us by Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye,” she explained.
