Okudzeto Ablakwa - Minister of Foreign Affairs
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu, addressed allegations regarding the ownership of a residence in Airport Hills. These claims suggested that Ablakwa owned the property but had registered it under his sister’s name. He firmly denied these accusations, presenting evidence to clarify the situation.
During his appearance on TV3 on February 8, 2025, Ablakwa urged his critics to back their allegations with solid proof. He emphasized that the house in question actually belongs to a Jordanian national named Husni Altheebeh. To support his statement, he shared a copy of his tenancy agreement from the estate managers in Airport Hills, clearly indicating that he is a tenant, not an owner.
Ablakwa stated, “I challenge them to put out that evidence that shows that the East Legon Hills residence belongs to me and that I’ve put it in my sister’s name. That’s absolutely untrue.” His strong rebuttal highlights his commitment to transparency.
He also explained that Members of Parliament (MPs) receive rent allowances, which enable them to afford housing. “What they failed to tell the Ghanaian people is that MPs receive rent allowance,” he pointed out. This clarification reinforces his stance that he is not misusing any resources.
Moreover, Ablakwa criticized the spread of misinformation aimed at damaging his reputation. He stressed the importance of factual discourse in politics, urging the public to focus on the truth rather than being swayed by false narratives. “It is important that we focus on facts and not allow misinformation to mislead the public,” he stated.
Reiterating his dedication to transparency and accountability, Ablakwa called on the public to seek the truth. He expressed his commitment to serving with honesty and integrity, emphasizing that he would not allow baseless accusations to tarnish his image.
