The Nsawam-Adoagyiri area is currently facing a big problem after the December 7, 2024 elections. Both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates are arguing over the election results, causing a lot of tension.
At first, it seemed like NDC candidate Amenorpe Philbert Fummey had won, and his supporters were celebrating. However, the current MP, Frank Annoh-Dompreh from the NPP, later claimed he had actually won, saying there were mistakes in the vote counting. This has led to a confusing situation where neither party is accepting the results.
To try to settle the issue, the Electoral Commission set up a place to recount the votes at the Tesano Police Station in Accra. But this process has been stopped because the NDC got a court order against it.
The situation became more complicated when an official from the Electoral Commission said there were errors in the initial counting that needed fixing. The NDC feels upset because they were not included in the correction process and want to ensure everything is done fairly.
As the NDC asks for new elections and has filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission, the situation is still developing. On December 12, both parties agreed to recount results from over 80 polling stations, but this was put on hold due to the NDC’s legal actions.
The ongoing drama in Nsawam-Adoagyiri shows the challenges of fair elections in Ghana and puts Annoh-Dompreh’s political future at risk.
