Stephen Appiah
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is set to join the new management committee for the national team. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is preparing to unveil this revamped committee following the dissolution of the previous team. This change comes after the Black Stars’ disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The decision to form a new management committee stems from the team’s struggles during the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast. Unfortunately, the Black Stars exited at the group stage for the second consecutive tournament, prompting a re-evaluation of the management structure. Dr. Randy Abbey, who was initially brought in for adjustments, will now take the helm as Chairman of the new committee.
Appiah will not be alone in this endeavor. He will be joined by notable figures, including Dr. Richard Duah Nsenkyire, president of FC Samartex, and Samuel Aboabire, the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association. Together, they aim to revitalize the team’s performance as they prepare for future competitions.
In addition to the new committee members, the GFA is considering appointing a technical director. This role would support head coach Otto Addo and enhance the team’s preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars are eager to rebound from their recent setbacks and demonstrate their capabilities in matches against Chad and Madagascar, scheduled for March.
Overall, this new management committee aims to restore hope and enthusiasm among fans and players alike. With experienced leaders like Stephen Appiah on board, there is optimism for a brighter future for the Black Stars. As they gear up for the World Cup qualifiers, the focus will be on building a strong team that can compete at the highest level.
