Media personality Serwaa Amihere has bravely shared her experience of battling depression after the leak of a private tape. The incident took a significant emotional toll on her, leading to a period of intense isolation and sadness.
In a heartfelt recount, Serwaa described how she felt overwhelmed and alone in the aftermath of the leak. “I was depressed and crying at home that day,” she revealed. It was during this dark time that her close friend, Auntie Obuobia Darko-Opoku, reached out in a gesture of kindness that would prove to be pivotal for Serwaa.
Obuobia offered to take Serwaa out for ice cream, a simple yet meaningful act. Despite feeling unmotivated, Serwaa shared how her friend insisted, “Let’s go and buy ice cream.” Remembering the day, she noted, “I remember trying to wear a cap. She asked, ‘Why do you want to hide your face? Let’s go.’”
The outing was a turning point for Serwaa. Obuobia bought her a large cup of ice cream and encouraged her to indulge. “Today, eat all the ice cream you can,” she said. Although the gesture seemed small, it had a profound impact on Serwaa’s emotional state. “I never told you how grateful I was for that ride. It did me a lot of good,” she expressed to Obuobia.
Serwaa continued to reflect on her friend’s unwavering support, acknowledging how important Obuobia has been in her life. “She has been an amazing person,” Serwaa said. “You all know how supportive she is. She supports me and my sister and is always advising me. So thank you. I love you very much.”
This emotional revelation came during the Ignite Youth Empowerment Thanksgiving Service organized by Obuobia Darko-Opoku. Serwaa’s willingness to share her struggles sheds light on the often-hidden challenges of dealing with public scrutiny and personal crises.
