Richard Jakpa
The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, confirmed that Richard Jakpa led a raid at the residence of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta. The incident, which took place while Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical treatment, has raised significant concerns about the conduct of security operatives.
During a session in Parliament on February 13, 2025, Ayariga expressed his dismay over the raid. He stated that military and police personnel, reportedly led by Jakpa, entered Ofori-Atta’s private residence in Cantonments, Accra. Ayariga described the situation as “unfortunate” and extended his apologies to the former minister, emphasizing the need for accountability.
The raid, which was captured on CCTV, reportedly involved around 12 individuals—five dressed in military uniforms, one in police attire, and the rest in plain clothes. Eyewitnesses noted the chaotic scene, which raised alarms among residents. The Majority Leader assured the public that the Office of the National Security Coordinator did not intend for such an incident to occur.
This incident comes at a time when Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor. Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng labeled him a fugitive due to allegations of causing financial loss to the state. These allegations stem from various dealings, including the controversial National Cathedral project.
The implications of this raid are serious, not just for Ofori-Atta but for Ghana’s political landscape as a whole. It highlights the growing tensions surrounding accountability in government and the actions of security forces. As the situation develops, many are left wondering about the future of Ofori-Atta and the broader implications for governance in Ghana.
