MoMo robbery
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has made significant progress in the investigation of recent Mobile Money (MoMo) robberies and murders in Kumasi. They have arrested three suspects linked to the tragic deaths of two MoMo vendors. The suspects are identified as Charles Kwame Danso, 23, also known as Kwame Charles or Miami; Philip Fordjour, 29; and Samuel Addae Mensah, 42. Their arrests took place on March 21, 2025, in their hideouts in Pankrono and Atimatim.
The first robbery incident occurred on February 13, 2025, in broad daylight at Krofrom, where Patricia Nimako, a MoMo vendor, was tragically murdered. The assailants made off with a substantial amount of cash. Just weeks later, on March 10, another robbery took place at Kwadaso, resulting in the death of Gideon Owusu Sarpong, who was also robbed and killed.
At a press conference in Kumasi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe announced the arrests and provided updates on the ongoing investigation. He stated that the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon face justice in court. The police are also searching for a fourth suspect, Martin Amoah, who is believed to be evading capture in either Dunkwa-on-Offin, Accra, or Kumasi.
These incidents have raised serious concerns about safety and security for MoMo vendors and the community at large. With the rise of mobile money transactions, the need for enhanced security measures has become increasingly urgent. Vendors often operate in vulnerable situations, making them easy targets for criminals.
The police’s swift action in apprehending these suspects offers a glimmer of hope for the victims’ families and the community. It emphasizes the importance of law enforcement in protecting citizens and maintaining order. As the investigation continues, many in Kumasi are hoping for a resolution that will bring justice to those affected by these heinous crimes.
