In a recent panel discussion on TV3, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu voiced his strong criticism of outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, calling him greedy. This remark comes as Ghana prepares for a new administration, and Kpebu’s words have sparked significant conversation across social media.
Kpebu expressed his astonishment at Akufo-Addo’s behavior, particularly given that he assumed the presidency at the age of 73. He compared Akufo-Addo’s actions to those of former President John Mahama, implying that Akufo-Addo’s greed surpassed that of Mahama, who, according to Kpebu, lacks the same legal background. His comments reflect a broader disappointment in Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
Looking back, Kpebu shared that he had high hopes for Akufo-Addo when he first took office in 2016. He had voted for him with the belief that after 40 years of preparation for the presidency, Akufo-Addo would lead Ghana towards prosperity. However, Kpebu’s disappointment grew as he observed what he described as poor performance during Akufo-Addo’s tenure. He questioned what the country might have experienced if Akufo-Addo had only prepared for ten years instead of four decades, suggesting that the situation could have been far worse.
As Akufo-Addo exits office on January 7, 2025, after serving for eight years, Kpebu’s comments highlight the frustrations many Ghanaians feel about the current state of the nation. The discussion surrounding his leadership is not just about personal grievances but reflects deeper concerns about governance and the expectations citizens have for their leaders.
Kpebu’s strong words serve as a reminder of the high hopes Ghanaians had for Akufo-Addo and the disappointment that followed.
