The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) recently expelled Frank Anderson, an MPhil student, due to his involvement in a series of fraudulent activities. Anderson’s actions included fake admissions, forged certificates, and falsified academic records, which have raised serious concerns about academic integrity.
In a statement from the university, officials revealed that a thorough investigation uncovered Anderson’s schemes. He allegedly solicited money from students in exchange for falsified grades and fake admission letters. The university emphasized its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in education, stating, “Mr. Frank Anderson has been withdrawn from his current programme of study at UEW.”
The investigation found that Anderson misrepresented himself as an individual capable of manipulating grades and securing “Protocol Admissions” for a fee ranging between GH₵1,000 and GH₵3,000. Despite these claims, there was no evidence that he accessed the university’s official grading system. Instead, he and his accomplices created fake PDF versions of students’ results and fabricated West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) certificates to facilitate their fraudulent admissions.
Anderson primarily operated in areas such as Suhum, Mangoase, Nsawam, and Winneba. His fraudulent activities did not go unnoticed; he is currently serving a jail sentence for similar offenses and remains on trial at the Winneba High Court.
The university has also taken steps to address the broader issue of academic fraud. Students found to have paid for grade alterations have been expelled, and all individuals who gained admission through deceitful means will have their admissions revoked. UEW reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for academic dishonesty and is working closely with law enforcement to ensure that everyone involved faces legal consequences.
