Timileyin Ajayi and wife
Timileyin Ajayi, a Nigerian gospel singer, was arrested after he allegedly beheaded his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu. This horrifying event took place near a church, where Ajayi was found with a polythene bag containing the severed head of Adaidu. Eyewitnesses noticed the disturbing scene, prompting them to alert the police.
What makes this case particularly unsettling is Ajayi’s lack of remorse following his arrest. When questioned about his actions, he stated bluntly, “I don’t regret it; she cheated.” His justification for the crime stems from discovering that Adaidu had been involved in “sex-chatting” with multiple men. Ajayi claimed he had seen her phone and the conversations, which he interpreted as betrayal.
During the interview, when asked if this was why he decided to kill her, he responded affirmatively. He expressed a belief in a reciprocal nature of life, suggesting that he felt justified in his violent retaliation. In addition to the head, authorities later recovered other dismembered parts of Adaidu’s body at Ajayi’s home.
Salome Adaidu was a 24-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps, serving in Abuja. Her family has been devastated by her loss, especially as her mother had just lost her husband seven months prior. Friends of Adaidu described the situation as heartbreaking. One close friend, Abby Simon, shared that the shock of losing her daughter caused Adaidu’s mother to faint.
As the investigation continues, the public and Adaidu’s family are calling for thorough scrutiny of the case. They seek justice for a young woman whose life was tragically cut short.
