The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a significant improvement for customers using Nuri prepayment meters. Following a successful Token Identifier (TID) rollover upgrade, customers are no longer required to purchase electricity credits for an entire month at once.
Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, ECG’s General Manager of External Communications, confirmed that this upgrade aligns Nuri meters with Standard Transfer Specification (STS) protocol requirements. The change particularly benefits customers in Prampram, Accra East, Accra West, and Tema regions, where most meters have already been upgraded.
For customers whose meters still need upgrading, ECG encourages them to reach out through their customer service channels for assistance. This development marks a significant shift from the company’s previous advisory on November 23, 2024, which had recommended purchasing monthly credits to avoid service disruptions during the upgrade process.
The new system offers greater flexibility in electricity purchases while maintaining uninterrupted power supply for Nuri meter users. ECG remains committed to completing the remaining upgrades and ensuring smooth service delivery for all customers.
