Dr. Eric Nkansah
Dr. Eric Nkansah has been dismissed from his role as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES). This decision comes as part of a broader government initiative to realign leadership within various state institutions.
Dr. Nkansah’s tenure began in April 2021 when he joined the Ministry of Education. Initially, he was seconded from Kumasi Technical University, where he served as the Director in charge of Tertiary Education and acted as a technical advisor to the Minister for Education. His expertise played a crucial role in shaping educational policies during his time at the ministry.
In January 2023, Dr. Nkansah was appointed Director-General by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Under his leadership, the GES saw notable advancements and structural improvements. However, as the new government takes charge, changes in leadership often occur to reflect their vision and objectives.
Replacing Dr. Nkansah is Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, who brings a wealth of experience to the position. Prof. Davis currently serves as the Provost of the College of Education at the University of Cape Coast. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia and has a strong academic background, having earned a Master’s degree in the same field from Hiroshima University in Japan.
Prof. Davis’s leadership experience includes serving as Vice-President of the Ghana Education Research Association in 2018. His extensive qualifications and involvement in various professional organizations position him well to lead the GES during this transition.
As the education sector continues to evolve, the new leadership under Prof. Davis aims to build on the foundation established by Dr. Nkansah. The changes signal a commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Ghana and addressing the challenges that lie ahead.
