Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, a determined contestant aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, recently shared a shocking experience from her first attempt. After successfully completing her second attempt, she opened up about a troubling situation that unfolded during her initial effort.
In her first attempt, Afua faced harsh criticism and skepticism from many Ghanaians, who accused her of seeking fame and financial gain. Some even suggested she should step aside and let the country focus on more pressing issues. Despite the backlash, Afua pressed on, but she was left feeling overwhelmed by the negativity.
During an emotional recounting of her experiences, she revealed that there were individuals who had plotted against her. “They planned to drug me,” she stated, highlighting the extreme lengths some people would go to undermine her. Afua described how, during her first attempt in Accra, she felt bombarded with unsolicited advice. When she didn’t achieve the results she hoped for, critics labeled her a failure.
Reflecting on the malicious plot, she expressed her disbelief over why anyone would want to harm her for a recognition that offers no monetary reward. “For a recognition that I’ve been tagged greedy and insulted over, why would you want to destroy me?” she questioned, visibly upset.
Despite the distressing events, Afua persevered and completed her second attempt, singing for an impressive 121 hours and 39 minutes. This marathon took place at Heroes’ Park in Kumasi, from December 21 to December 25, 2024, and celebrated the diversity of Ghanaian music. She described the experience as more intimate and fulfilling compared to her first attempt, which was marked by turmoil.
Even though Afua is aware of the need to speak out about the plot against her, she has chosen to remain silent for now. She explained that she has been advised to hold back her story to avoid potential fallout for herself and others involved.
