Melchizedek Adio
Melchizedek Adio Baafawiise has made headlines as one of the youngest students ever to enroll at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). At just 13 years old, Melchizedek is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Physics, a testament to his extraordinary academic abilities.
Melchizedek’s journey to KNUST began with his impressive performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), where he achieved A1 in five subjects, including Physics and Mathematics. His passion for Physics, particularly Mechanics, has propelled him to take this significant step in his education. He expressed his fascination with the subject, stating, “I love the calculations and the mechanics. When you perform experiments, you get to feel them.”
Growing up in a family where education is valued—his father teaches Economics and his mother works in primary education—Melchizedek initially dreamed of becoming a pilot. However, as he matured, he recognized the limitations of that career path and opted to explore Physics more broadly. He believes that studying Physics will help him clarify his interests and possibly lead him to specialize in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering in the future.
Before entering KNUST, Melchizedek attended St. Cyprian’s Minor Seminary, where his advanced skills allowed him to skip Forms 2 and 3. Although he faced challenges adapting to university life, he quickly found his place among students much older than him. He shared, “It doesn’t seem like much of a difference. It’s just normal.”
Melchizedek’s story is one of determination and brilliance. His journey at KNUST promises to be filled with discovery as he navigates the academic challenges ahead. As he embarks on this new chapter, he embodies the spirit of youthful ambition and the pursuit of knowledge.
