In a shake-up of Ghana’s football administration, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dissolved the Black Stars Management Committee following the national team’s unprecedented failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The decision was announced on November 21, 2024, after a crucial Executive Council meeting held the previous day. This dramatic move comes in response to the Black Stars’ dismal performance in the AFCON qualifiers, where the team finished last in Group F with just three points from six matches, managing only three draws and suffering three defeats.
The dissolution marks a critical turning point in Ghana’s football history, as it coincides with the team’s first failure to qualify for AFCON in 21 years. The qualification spots from Group F were claimed by Angola and Sudan, leaving Ghana and Niger out of the continental showpiece.
Mark Addo, who chaired the now-dissolved committee, and his team have been acknowledged by the GFA for their service to Ghana football. The Executive Council’s statement, published on ghanafa.org, expressed gratitude to the outgoing committee members while confirming their immediate departure.
This restructuring represents a significant attempt to address the declining fortunes of the four-time African champions. The Black Stars’ recent performances have sparked widespread concern among football stakeholders and fans, leading to calls for comprehensive reforms in the team’s management structure.
The GFA’s decision signals a potential reset for Ghana’s national team management, as the association seeks to chart a new course for the Black Stars’ future. This development comes at a crucial time when Ghanaian football faces the challenge of rebuilding its reputation in African football.
