Dede Ayew
Ghanaian footballer André Dede Ayew has recently spoken out against calls for his retirement from the national team, the Black Stars. In an interview with BBC Sport Africa, Ayew made it clear that he remains passionate about the game and has no plans to step away from football anytime soon.
Ayew, who currently plays for Le Havre, expressed his enduring love for the sport. He stated, “I love what I’m doing, and I’m not ready to stop.” This sentiment reflects his commitment to both club and country, despite facing ups and downs in his career.
His performance this season has been noteworthy, as he has scored several goals for Le Havre. Reports suggest that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is considering calling him up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This interest indicates that Ayew still has much to contribute to the national team.
However, Ayew’s absence from the team during the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers raised eyebrows. Coach Addo explained that the decision to drop him was based on performance rather than any personal issues. This context highlights the competitive nature of football and the importance of consistent performance.
Currently, Ghana is positioned second in Group I of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, tied on points with group leaders Comoros. As they prepare to face Chad and Madagascar in March 2025, the team is focused on securing a top position for automatic qualification to the World Cup.
