
Campaign activities at the University of Ghana campus took an unexpected turn when supporters of parliamentary candidates John Dumelo and Lydia Seyram Alhassan had a heated confrontation on November 29, 2024.
The incident occurred during separate campaign engagements by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. NDC’s John Dumelo and supporter Malik Basintale were present, while the NPP was represented by incumbent MP Lydia Alhassan’s team and Second Lady Samira Bawumia’s supporters.
What started as routine voter engagement quickly escalated into a verbal altercation between supporters of both parties. Security personnel on campus had to intervene to prevent the situation from turning physical. Eyewitnesses reported seeing John Dumelo in discussion with campus security officers during the incident.
