A Dambai Circuit Court has handed down a 10-year sentence with hard labor to Alex Aziabu, a 19-year-old farmer, after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. The case, which was presided over by Mr. Osman Abdul Hakeem, revealed disturbing details of the incident that occurred on October 30, 2024.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo, who presented the case, the assault took place when the victim was returning home from an errand. Aziabu chased and caught up with the victim, forcibly dragging her into nearby bushes where he committed the offense. The attack only stopped when the perpetrator noticed the victim was bleeding.
After the incident, the victim immediately reported to her parents, who took action by:
- Locating the perpetrator’s parents
- Facilitating his arrest
- Ensuring proper medical examination of the victim
Medical evidence presented in court confirmed the assault, with hospital reports documenting physical trauma. The perpetrator admitted to the crime in his police statement, leading to his swift conviction.
